現在、アルテミス計画の推進とともに、地球以外の惑星での居住が現実味を帯びて議論されはじめています。特に月面開発や、その先にある火星での居住計画についても具体的な検討が進んでいます。さらに、太陽系外においても居住可能と考えられる惑星がいくつか示唆されており、人類がどこまで宇宙に進出できるのかが注目されています。
しかし、宇宙での長期滞在には数多くの課題が存在します。本セミナーでは、NASAゴダード宇宙飛行センターから研究員を迎え、とりわけ宇宙居住に欠かせない「物質循環技術」に焦点をあて、長期滞在を可能にするために必要な技術的ブレークスルーについて議論します。
With the progress of the Artemis program, the prospect of human habitation beyond Earth is becoming a tangible topic of discussion. Development of lunar bases and future settlement on Mars are now actively considered, while several exoplanets have also been suggested as potentially habitable worlds. The question of how far humanity can expand into the cosmos is more relevant than ever.
Yet, numerous challenges must be overcome to enable long-term human presence in space. In this seminar, we welcome a researcher from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center to explore the technologies required for sustainable space habitation, with a particular focus on material recycling and closed-loop systems essential for long-duration missions.

Vladimir Airapetian, Ph.D.
NASAゴダード宇宙飛行センター上級研究員、アメリカン大学物理学部教授。
恒星活動（フレアやコロナ質量放出）と惑星大気進化の研究において国際的に著名。NASAの「Habitable Worlds」プログラムにも深く関与し、太陽活動が地球や太陽系外惑星の居住可能性に与える影響を明らかにしてきた。近年は、宇宙生命探査、宇宙気候変動、そして惑星防御の観点からも多くの成果を発表している。
Dr. Vladimir Airapetian is a Senior Scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and Professor of Physics at American University. He is internationally recognized for his work on stellar activity (flares and coronal mass ejections) and planetary atmosphere evolution. He has been a key contributor to NASA’s Habitable Worlds program, investigating the impacts of solar and stellar activity on Earth and exoplanet habitability. His recent research also covers astrobiology, space weather, and planetary defense.
山敷庸亮（Yosuke Alexandre Yamashiki, Dr. Eng.）
京都大学大学院総合生存学館 教授、SIC有人宇宙学研究センター長。宇宙移住のための三つのコアコンセプトを提唱し、太陽系外惑星データベース EXOKYOTO を制作・公開。さらに、西陣織を応用した次世代宇宙服の研究開発など、伝統と先端科学を融合したユニークな取り組みを進めている。
Professor at GSAIS, Kyoto University, and Director of the SIC Human Spaceology Center. He proposed the “Three Core Concepts for Space Migration” and developed the EXOKYOTO exoplanet database. He also leads pioneering projects such as the development of next-generation Nishijin-ori based space suits, merging traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge space technology.
市村周一（Shuichi Ichimura）
京都大学大学院総合生存学館博士後期課程 / KDDI。宇宙居住における資源循環・リサイクル技術を研究。これまでJAXA宇宙科学研究所での月面構造物研究、筑波宇宙センターでの国際宇宙ステーション「きぼう」日本実験棟のJAXAフライトディレクタ等を歴任。さらにコンサルティングファームで多分野の事業開発・技術戦略に携わった後、KDDIに入社し、宇宙事業・技術戦略策定や関連企画を担当。
Doctoral student at GSAIS, Kyoto University, and member of KDDI Corporation. His research focuses on resource recycling systems for space habitation. Previously, he worked at JAXA’s Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) on lunar structures and served as a JAXA Flight Director for the ISS “Kibo” Japanese Experiment Module at the Tsukuba Space Center. After consulting experience in business and technology strategy across multiple industries, he joined KDDI, where he is currently engaged in space business and technology strategy planning.
